How To: Self Tanner

HOW TO GET THAT SUMMER GLOW:

…without the damage (and time commitment) of the real sun. I have used self-tanners for as long as I can remember. I live in the south y’all, so tans are V important. There’s just something about sun kissed skin (even when it’s not actually sun kissed). I have used every tanner under the sun… from gradual to mousse and everything in between. I’ve looking like an Oompa Loompa, I’ve been streaked like a skunk.. you name it. Of course I have learned a few go to tricks along the way, but at the end of the day it’s all about good products.

I apply a gradual self-tanner just about every single night, I feel like this is the best way to keep the streaks at bay and extend your tan. Once a week (usually on a Thursday night– hello, fresh tan for the weekend) I’ll exfoliate really, really well with my Kopari Coconut Crush Scrub (smells like vacation) and get any build up off.

Post shower, shave and exfoliate I’ll break out the mousse. This summer I have been using the medium to tan, but in the off season when I want a more subdue glow I opt for the light to medium. I definitely suggest buying the light at first just to make sure you’re skilled with the application because the medium to dark is verrrry pigmented.

To apply the self tanner, I always lean to more is better. If you don’t apply enough (like when I’m getting near the end of the bottle) I end up coming out with lines and streaks. I will say though, with this brand of mousse, the streaks are nearly impossible to get. I don’t know what it is about this formula, but it’s like the Marry Poppins bag of self tanners– theres always enough and it always looks good *I think*.

Don’t be so 2009 and forget to give your face a little glow. I don’t like my face very dark at all, just a slight sun kissed look– so I always opt for the shade below what I am applying to my body *hello, pro tip*! I think this appears the most natural and keeps you from looking like you fake baked.

Anyway, these are my tips and products. Wouldn’t say I’m a pro at self tanner but I do use it a lot and I try a lot of different brands and this combo right here can’t be beat. I didn’t have the mousse for the photos because I was out *tear*.
